Key Responsibilities & Facilities:
- Strategic Project Definition & Feasibility:
- Collaborating to refine project briefs, establish clear objectives, and define success metrics.
- Conducting detailed feasibility studies, site appraisals, and strategic option analyses to inform sound investment decisions.
- Developing comprehensive project execution plans and robust delivery strategies from inception.
- Design & Technical Management:
- Overseeing the design process to ensure buildability, cost-efficiency, sustainability, and strict adherence to client requirements and regulatory standards.
- Facilitating seamless coordination between all design disciplines and specialist consultants.
- Procurement & Contractor Selection:
- Advising on the most appropriate procurement routes (e.g., traditional, design & build, management contracting, integrated project delivery).
- Managing the entire tender process, from drafting comprehensive tender documents to rigorous bid evaluation and contractor recommendations.
- Cost Management & Financial Control:
- Developing meticulous project budgets, cost plans, and sophisticated cash flow forecasts.
- Diligent monitoring of expenditure, proactive management of variations, and accurate financial reporting to ensure budget adherence.
- Implementing value engineering initiatives to enhance project value and efficiency.
- Programme Management & Control:
- Developing master project programmes and detailed activity schedules, including critical path analysis.
- Rigorous monitoring of progress against the programme, identifying and mitigating potential delays, and advising on effective recovery strategies.
- Quality Assurance & Control:
- Establishing stringent quality management protocols and monitoring their implementation across all project phases.
- Overseeing inspections, testing regimes, and commissioning processes to ensure the highest quality deliverables.
- Facilities for Contract Preparation (Client-Side Focus):
- Contract Drafting & Negotiation: Expert assistance in drafting bespoke contracts or adapting standard forms (JCT, NEC, FIDIC) to align with specific project needs and risk appetite. This includes preparing Employer’s Requirements, Articles of Agreement, Particular Conditions, and Schedules of Conditions.
- Risk Allocation Analysis: Advising on the strategic allocation of risks within contracts to protect the client’s position.
- Contractual Health Checks: Reviewing proposed contracts from contractors or other parties to identify onerous clauses and recommend necessary amendments.
- Legal Liaison: Working seamlessly with legal counsel to ensure contracts are robust, enforceable, and fully protect client interests.
- Dispute Management (Client-Side Focus):
- Proactive Prevention: Embedding robust contract administration, clear communication protocols, and early warning systems to minimise the likelihood of disputes.
- Claims Vetting & Analysis: Meticulously reviewing and analysing claims received from contractors for validity, contractual entitlement, and quantum, providing the client with a clear, defensible position.
- Negotiation & Resolution Support: Representing or advising the client during informal negotiations, mediations, and formal dispute resolution processes such as Adjudication, Arbitration, or Litigation.
Documentation & Evidence: Assisting in the meticulous compilation of project records and contemporaneous documentation to support or defend against claims.
